EFCC opposes ex-bank chief, others in alleged theft suit.

THE Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) yesterday opposed applications filed by the former Managing Director of Finbank, Mr. Okey Nwosu and three others challenging the competence of the charge against them.
Nwosu, alongside Dayo Famoroti, Danjuma Ocholi and Agnes Ebubedike, were arraigned before Justice Lateefa Okunnu of an Ikeja High Court, by the EFCC for allegedly stealing the sum of N10.9 billion belonging to the bank.
But the defendants had separately in a no case submissions at the last adjourned date urged the court to dismiss the alleged theft charge preferred against them by the anti-graft agency,
In opposing the applications, however, EFCC counsel, Rotimi Jacobs (SAN), said it was clear from the statement of the first defendant that there was no board approval to give out the N22 billion loan, belonging to the bank.
Jacobs, who adopted his written address filed on September 12, 2013, contended that a prima facie case has been established in that regard.
He, therefore, urged the court to dismiss the no-case submissions filed by the defendants through their counsel.
