Dangote builds N2b hospital in Kano

DANGOTE Foundation yesterday began the construction of what has been described as one of Africa’ most ambitious health facilities located in Kano State.
It is worth N2 billion.
Also, the President of the Dangote Group, Alhaji Aliko Dangote, said he is planning to build the world’s best hospital in Kano State to stop medical tourism that has cost Nigeria billions of naira.
The medical facilities, named Mariya Sanusi Dantata Ultramodern Theatre Complex and a diagnostic laboratory, are situated within the Murtala Muhammad Specialist Hospital in Kano.
Speaking at the foundation stone laying ceremony, Dangote, the foundation’s chairman, said: “It is not just about creating a modern, new sorely needed medical facility in this great city of ours. It is about our broader commitment to systematically improving the health and well-being, which is one of our areas of focus. We believe that every Nigerian has a right to quality healthcare. We also believe that it is our collective duty to rally our resources to improve health infrastructure, support the development of health care professionals and improve preventive health measures in Nigeria.
“Today we are pleased to be able to stand with the governor as he lays the foundation stone for the five-storey ultramodern theatre complex.”
Governor Rabiu Musa Kwankwaso commended the foundation for its numerous interventions in Kano, including a recent N600 million women empowerment scheme by Dangote Group.
Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Sanusi Lamido Sanusi said medical tourism costs the country about N80 billion annually. He urged wealthy Nigerians to emulate Dangote’s philanthropic spirit.
Dangote who is rated Africa’s richest person penultimate week doled out N10 billion to empower Nigerian women, an exercise that has been hailed as timely given the menace of insecurity that has created thousands of widows and orphans in the Northern part of the country.
