Insecurity: Immigration to Establish Special Border Corps.

The Nigeria Immigration Services (NIS) has disclosed Federal Government’s approval for the immediate establishment of Special Border Corps (SBC) for effective policing of the nation’s borders to checkmate an influx of terrorist elements into the country.
The Comptroller-General of Immigration, Mr. David Parradang, revealed this yesterday in Abuja, during the decorations of 34 newly promoted officers to the position of Controllers.
Parrandang said special border officers would be equipped with special fatigue, uniforms and appropriate technology would be made available for them.
He noted that the 34 senior officers were part of 6,193 officers promoted recently by the Civil Defence, Fire, Immigration and Prisons Services Board vide Ref. No.CDFIPB/PL/NIS/330.
The NIS boss, while charging the newly promoted officers to do their best, also told them to ensure that all borders are well patroled. He said: “My expectation and charge to you are clear and urgent.You must ensure that our borders are well patrolled. Make them water tight. If any irregular immigrant is intercepted in land, you must answer for it.
“I expect that you register, monitor and control all immigrants in your various commands. We must account for each and non-Nigerian in our midst where he resides, what he does for a living.
“We must remove regularly with full respect to the ECOWAS protocols and the human right of those who reside in Nigeria illegally,” he added.
Also speaking at the occasion, the minister of Interior, Comrade Abba Moro, assured that the ministry will continue to ensure that transparency was its watch word in term of promotions of deserving officers.
Moro, who was represented by the Permanent Secretary, Ministry of Interior, Mrs. Fatimat  Bamidele, congratulated the officers and enjoined them to work hands in hands with the current leadership of the Service so as to achieve the desire goals.
