The Chairman of the Task Force, Alhaji Ghali Sule, dtold the the News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) on Friday in Kano that the peddlers were convicted by magistrate courts in the state, adding that most of them were still serving their various prison terms.
He said the committee had also confiscated and destroyed fake and adulterated drugs worth over N3 billion since its establishment in 2012.
Sule said the task force was able to raid about 10 warehouses used to store fake and adulterated drugs in the state.
“Before now, Kano State was a dumping ground for fake and adulterated drugs but with the establishment of the task force, it has curtailed the ugly trend to the barest minimum,’’ he said.
The chairman disclosed that the latest raid on Wednesday on three warehouses at Kofar Ruwa in the metropolis, had led to the recovery of four vehicles, including two trailers loaded with tramol, valium, codeine syrup, and other prohibited drugs.
“Even recently, we closed down three illegal drugs manufacturing outlets at Dakata in Nasarawa Local Government, and in Jaba and Sabon Gari areas of Fagge Local Government Area,’’ he said.
